Welcome to our new blog series, From the Design Eye! From the Design Eye will allow you to dive deeper into the process behind Eliza Jane Events’ designs. Throughout this series, we will be covering topics such as ceremony layouts, venue spaces, ways to make your wedding unique, and this month's topic of creating dimensional table displays. Follow along as we share some industry knowledge behind the “why” and “how” of event design.

In the world of luxury weddings, every detail matters, and table design is no exception. A well-crafted tablescape must seamlessly blend texture, height, color, florals, and candles to create your dream aesthetic. From lavish table linens to exquisite glassware, each component plays a crucial role in transforming a reception into an unforgettable experience. Below, we will walk you through each of these elements and why they are an integral part of bringing your wedding vision to life.

Floral Arrangements

Floral compositions should be thoughtfully curated to reflect the event aesthetic. Florals tell a story like no other element can. If the desired look is a romantic, botanical, garden wedding, you are likely going to gravitate towards an organically structured arrangement. The arrangement will predominantly feature classic florals such as a variation of roses, peonies, ranunculus, and long hanging pieces of greenery. If the vision is a homestead or boho wedding, your structure might also be organic but include distinctly different ingredients. This look may include pampas grass, astilbi, dahlias, and or wildflower elements. Suppose your vision is leaning toward a modern, chic aesthetic. In that case, your arrangements will have a more structured design with statement florals such as anemones, orchids, roses, calla lilies, and hydrangeas. The bloom choices, structure, and environment are fundamental components used to express your desired aesthetic.

Candle Selection

As your night progresses into different stages of celebration and the natural daylight begins to fade, candlelight begins to take over, changing the atmosphere of the room entirely. Thoughtfully chosen votive holders, pillar candle vases, taper holders, and hurricane shades further elevate the tablescape’s luminous effect. Crystal ribbed or gold taper holders would work brilliantly for an elegant ballroom or garden wedding but might pull the look in a different direction for the homestead wedding. For that design, using an organic material such as terracotta, stone, wood, or metal would align best with the story we are trying to convey. We could even adjust the color or texture of the candles to tie the table elements together. There are infinite possibilities to combine the candle style, color, texture, and base to make your tablescape uniquely yours.

Floral, Candle, and Height Variation

A well-crafted table design adds elements of height to create visual interest and drama throughout your reception room and create eye-catching table displays. It is important to always create a design with your venue in mind. Tall statement floral arrangements accented with a mixture of lower candles would accessorize a venue space with high ceilings exceptionally well. In a venue with limited height, centerpieces with low florals and taller candles provide varying points of visual interest without making the room feel cluttered. Complementing your choice of florals with an array of candles creates a warm, inviting glow that enhances the atmosphere of the overall event. Our suggestion is to always incorporate two or three different types of candles along with your floral centerpieces to increase visual interest and variation on the table. A solely candlelit reception would make a statement of its own and would be the only case not to incorporate floral elements.

(P.S. Many clients believe that candles would be an inexpensive option compared to the floral alternative, when in reality, we tend to see that the rates become comparable after calculating exactly how many candles we would require to execute that look.)

Table Linens & Napkin Folds

Intentionally chosen linens can elevate your desired aesthetic by incorporating textures, patterns, and color into your space. Linens will be featured throughout your day on cocktail high-top & low-top tables, reception dining, napkins, etc. Incorporating fabrics like velvet, silk, sequin, or textured cotton can change a basic table design into an elevated guest experience. For a fall wedding aesthetic that is cozy and intimate, using a velvet or classic linen in colors such as claret, fern, or terracotta would create a cohesive color palette that works with the season. If you are looking to bring in whimsical and colorful elements for spring, a multi-colored abstract pattern or textured airy linen might be the way to go. Don’t forget that the finishing touch to any table setting is the napkin presentation. Artful folds, such as the waterfall drape, pocket fold, knot, or wrap, can truly impact the table design.

Chargers, Flatware, and Glassware

Tableware is the accessory element, resembling jewelry on your tablescape. A charger can be thought of as a necklace, flatware - rings, and glassware - earrings. Your outfit - the linens, florals, and candles - will make a statement, but pairing that outfit with the right jewelry makes the look complete. Crystal or bone china chargers with gold-rimmed, scalloped, or abstract designs will create a lavish base for your table settings. Sleek, polished flatware enhances the look of the charger and can complement other metallic elements within your design. Crystal glassware with intricate etchings or unique colored goblets add texture and fun to an ordinary table element. Your wedding day tableware should combine practicality and style to reflect you.

Wedding table designs are a carefully orchestrated composition of texture, height, color, and ambiance. The key is to be intentional when choosing each element to curate your individual story. Creating a luxury atmosphere is all in the details. By integrating striking floral arrangements, varied candlelight, dynamic linens, and exquisite tableware, you create a setting that is both visually stunning and deeply immersive. The result? A truly breathtaking one-of-a-kind experience that captivates and delights every guest. Have fun experimenting with your own wedding, and let us know your favorite tip in our comments!
